The state legislative session in Georgia will begin on January 13th, with a host of new issues that range from charter enhancements to credit union law, lending issues, lien law issues, and tax issues, to name just a few. And while the holidays are truly upon us, credit union advocacy does not stop. In just the past two weeks the in-district legislative connections included:
- On Wednesday, December 18th LSCU’s Advocacy Team sat down with state Rep. Erick Allen (D-Smyrna) to follow up on the recent listening session he held at Delta Community Credit Union. Credit unions this year have created a positive connection with Rep. Allen, who serves on the House Banking Committee and regularly engaged the LSCU lobbying team on the issues addressed in the hearings. Back in July Rep. Allen toured Delta Community CU’s headquarters in his district to learn more about the industry, and during the visit he was impressed with the financial classes taking place in the community rooms. Our thanks to Delta Community CU for building such a positive relationship.
All credit unions make a difference, and one avenue to learn how is through attending the State GAC/Grassroots Academy on January 28th. This 12th annual state governmental affairs day for credit union leaders is held around the Georgia legislative session and is an immersion into all things political for credit unions to gain an insider’s view into the influences and influencers of the legislative world.
