Engaging with the regulatory bodies is just as key a component of advocacy as engaging with legislators, and on March 19th credit unions had a unique opportunity to connect with top federal and state regulators. Thank you to both NCUA Regional Director Keith Morton and Georgia Department of Banking and Finance (DBF) Commissioner Kevin Hagler for their insight and involvement in the credit union regulator dialogue held this week, and this meeting was the first opportunity credit unions had to meet with the new Regional Director for the Southern Region of NCUA since he’s taken on that role. Joining the meeting were senior staff of the DBF: Melissa Sneed, Deputy Commissioner of Supervision, and Bo Fears, General Counsel, who shared with the group the positive news for credit unions of HB 185 passing the state Legislature this week.

This dialogue was organized to connect Georgia credit unions with these key leadership individuals, get a sense of their supervision priorities in the year ahead, and provide an avenue for credit unions to voice concerns, questions or ideas. Communication is key for improvements, and our thanks to all the credit unions and regulatory leaders in attendance, as well as a big thank you to Atlanta Postal CU for donating the space for this meeting!
