Building Relationships for the Future

During 2019 there were in-district meetings with 29 state and federal legislators; however, two of those were “repeat” visits in the past two weeks! As with any strong relationship, positive legislative connections are built on regular interaction. These two meetings were a great way to help grow the relationship that began earlier in the year:

  • Dickson, Harrell, Smith
State Sen. Sally Harrell, center, with Tom Dickson and Debbie Smith of Georgia United Credit Union

On Wednesday, December 4th state Sen. Sally Harrell (D-Atlanta) joined Georgia United CU at the fall board meeting of Junior Achievement of Georgia (JA). This event provided an ideal time to reconnect with the legislator and illustrate the positive impact of the relationship with JA. Back in September Sen. Harrell had met with Georgia United CU’s team at their in-district branch to learn more about credit unions, and during the meeting was impressed with the work the credit union puts forth with JA. Our thanks to Georgia United CU for reconnecting with her and growing the relationship; this December meeting of JA was an perfect avenue to reinforce the positive message from September!

  • On Tuesday, December 10th Delta Community CU provided the venue and volunteers for an evening in-district listening session of state Rep. Erick Allen (D-Smyrna). This was an avenue for Rep. Allen to conduct a town hall in the credit union community room and highlight what it does in the community! Back in July Rep. Allen toured Delta Community CU’s headquarters in his district to learn more about the industry, and during the visit he was impressed with the financial classes taking place in the community rooms. Our thanks to Delta Community CU for reconnecting with him and serving as a host for his constituent-focused listening session on the issues coming up in the next session!
