Georgia Credit Unions Engage in Global Classroom Initiative

From May 7th through May 9th Georgia credit unions and GCUA were host to credit unions from Costa Rica, Ecuador, Mexico and Uruguay for a “global classroom” learning initiative. This three-day event was coordinated through the World Council of Credit Unions, which reached out to Georgia for a study tour in the Atlanta area to explore how credit unions utilize technology, partnerships, core systems, CUSOs and products to provide their members the services they need for now and in the future. GCUA was delighted to host this international delegation to help grow the cooperative system around the world, and it speaks volumes about the entire credit union industry in this state that they chose Georgia.

During the study tour these credit union leaders from Latin America met with BOND Community FCU and GCUA on May 7th, visited GEMC FCU and Georgia’s Own CU on May 8th, and visited Atlanta Postal CU and Delta Community CU on May 9th. All of these interactions provided an ideal and unique window into credit union operations, with a comprehensive understanding of technological tools, resources and partnerships credit unions utilize in this state.

Our thanks to all the credit unions for sharing their time and opening their doors to this international group to discuss their specific tools and strategies in creating success for the members. This was a unique opportunity to learn from each other and share how credit unions of all sizes utilize a variety of partnerships to help people afford life!
