Credit Unions Man Two Phone-Bank Nights for Candidates

Each election credit unions engage in challenging races of key candidates that have strong connections with the industry, and in doing so provide some well-timed hands-on assistance.  This was seen in the primary in May with the campaign event volunteers and phone bank help for two candidates, the November general elections yard-sign deployment effort, and many tours with federal candidates.  In the past two weeks credit unions rounded out their 2018 election assistance efforts with two separate phone bank nights, placing almost 2,000 calls to voters:

  • Martin group
Phone-bank volunteers for State Sen. PK Martin

On the evening of October 18th Associated CU, Atlanta Postal CU, Peach State FCU and GCUA ran a phone bank for state Senator PK Martin (R-Lawrenceville) to encourage early voting. Credit unions have a strong ally with Sen. Martin as he stays dialed into the issues the credit union lobbying team tackles regularly, and has sponsored bills specifically for the industry to help secure passage for credit union issues in the Senate. Our thanks to the credit union volunteers for making the calls to encourage people to vote, and thank you to Peach State FCU for sharing space for the night!

  • Teasley group
Phone-bank volunteers for State Rep. Sam Teasley

On the evening of October 24th Georgia’s Own CU, LGE Community CU and GCUA manned a phone bank for state Representative Sam Teasley (R-Marietta)to encourage swing voters for Rep. Teasley. Rep. Teasley is the sole member of the state Legislature who serves on a credit union committee, and actively works to protect credit unions.  He is a big supporter by his actions in the Legislature, and an evening of phone banking could make the difference in his race.  Our thanks to the credit union volunteers for making the calls to encourage people to vote, and to LGE Community CU for sharing space for the night!

These calls truly can make a difference in any election.  And of course, there are credit unions around the state that are encouraging their members, staff and board to simply vote!  This is a powerful action as well; if your credit union hasn’t engaged yet in encouraging staff, board and members to vote yet, there is still time and several easy ways to do so through ElectionWatch (the nonpartisan get-out-the-vote website created for Georgia).
