In the past two weeks the state Legislature in Georgia has held almost 20 hearings to address issues ranging from scooters to health, infant mortality, tort reform and casinos, to name a few. If this high level of legislative activity is any indication, it will be a very hectic legislative session come January! Amid the hearings, the final “Workforce Housing” special study committee met to move forward their final recommendations.
While the focus of the study committee’s findings is directed at loosening local code and aesthetic requirements on homes (as well as expanding the low-income housing tax credit), during the hearings held around the state there was much dialogue on the barriers to home ownership, foreclosures, federal tools for homeownership, and what the lending requirements are when making a mortgage. LSCU will stay engaged in the process as this issue will likely be debated heavily during the session, with the focus to protect against lending obstacles or barriers to helping those seeking a mortgage.
