Creating Influence

Starting the Chapter Year with a Focus on How Credit Unions Impact Grassroots

Grassroots capability is important to the advocacy success of any industry. Two important parts of strong grassroots are educating staff and board about the issues that impact credit unions, and having a sustainable and active political fundraising plan. Credit unions have this wherewithal to engage in political action through the PACs, something that more than 70 credit unions and support organizations supported in 2017.

On Thursday, January 18th the Augusta Area Credit Union Chapter held an advocacy-focused meeting with a refresher to staff and board on why it’s important to be involved. This legislative/PAC focused meeting helped drive home the importance of credit union grassroots, the key issues being addressed at the state legislative session, and how credit unions’ involvement with PAC fundraising is vital to the success of the industry.

Our thanks to the Augusta area credit unions for requesting this topic, and for kicking off their first chapter meeting of 2018 with how to grow credit union advocacy and influence. And, there are two more chapters holding similar meetings on the horizon (Coastal Empire Chapter and Mountain Empire Chapter). If you would like something similar to happen at your area chapter meeting, please let us know!
