Kicking Off 2018 Credit Union Advocacy with Eggs and Issues

On January 10th credit union representatives and GCUA joined 2,500 business leaders, state legislators and local officials at the Georgia Chamber of Commerce Eggs and Issues breakfast. This event is the unofficial kickoff to the legislative session, and at the credit union table were State Sen. P.K. Martin (R-Lawrenceville), State Representative Brian Prince (D-Augusta), Chuck Head of Atlanta Postal CU, Megan Contreras of Atlanta Postal CU, and GCUA.

Attendees were treated to insight from Governor Nathan Deal (R)Lt. Governor Casey Cagle (R), and Speaker of the House David Ralston (R-Blue Ridge). Their presentations highlighted the priorities and initiatives of their offices for the upcoming session, including transit, tax changes, health care and education – and the possibility of a special session later in the year depending upon the Amazon headquarters decision. In addition, Chamber CEO Chris Clark shared how the Chamber is continuing a focus on rural Georgia, transit and growing positive communities where Georgians can work and thrive. From a credit union perspective, this breakfast is a good window to glean what may be pursued by the Governor, Lieutenant Governor and Speaker of the House from a legislative perspective, to be seen by other industries to grow the influence of credit unions, and to connect with legislators.
