Growing Connections

Robby Glore and Brian Kemp

Being engaged with legislators is a key component to advocacy. It’s important for legislators to know the impact of the industry in the districts, to recognize (and know) the people that lead them, and for credit unions to be engaged on a local level. By doing so, positive relationships can be crafted – and legislators can in turn have a good understanding of the unique legislative needs of credit unions. This effort is highlighted throughout the year in Creating Influence, with the most recent activity below:

  • On November 18th Robby Glore, CEO of Combined Employees Credit Union, engaged Governor Brian Kemp (R) at the Sumter County Chamber of Commerce event in Americus. The governor’s office hears from a wide variety of groups and industries, some wanting things much different from what credit unions seek, so being visible in the districts is important. Our thanks to Glore for attending the event, seizing the opportunity to engage, and ensuring that the governor knew that he was there representing credit unions!
  • On November 15th State Rep. Chuck Efstration (R-Dacula) sat down with part of LSCU’s lobbying team to discuss the upcoming state session. Rep. Efstration has been very open to credit unions, engaged the lobbying team on a complete rewrite of the power of attorney (POA) law in Georgia in 2017, connected with credit unions through the compliance area for the roll out of the POA law, and worked with the lobbying team in 2018 on additional technical changes. These types of relationships and connections are grown over time; Rep. Efstration first met with credit unions back in 2016 in the district, and we appreciate that he has consistently reached out for input on key issues.
