Creating Influence

Credit Unions Grow Connections with State and Statewide Legislators

On February 6th credit union leaders hosted a reception for the State Legislature to grow the level of awareness of the industry.  This reception was held in conjunction with the February League board, GCUS board, GCUF board, MCA board, and the joint Advocacy Policy Committee/GA CUPAC Trustees meetings.  The joint Advocacy Policy/PAC meeting was also treated to an overview on leveraging grassroots as an industry nationwide from Richard Gose, Chief Political Officer at CUNA who stayed for the reception.

Joining credit unions and the legislators were several statewide elected constitutional officers, a top-ranking official from the Department of Banking and Finance, leadership of both the House and Senate, key committee chairmen, and a wide variety of state Senators and Representatives from all across the state.  It was a bi-partisan event that provided both networking for the legislators with each other as much as with the credit unions.

This reception is held to create the opportunity to engage the industry with elected leaders, and build relationships with the people who vote on the issues that matter to credit unions. But above all, it is the opportunity to educate members of the State Legislature on what makes credit unions unique and develop in-person connections that can help put a face on the industry when lobbying for issues.  Our thanks to the credit union board and committee members in attendance at the meetings and reception; you helped grow the level of connections for the industry!
