Building Relationships for the Industry: Meeting with Rep. Jason Ridley

On Friday, September 1st GCUA sat down with state Rep. Jason Ridley (R-Chatsworth) to educate him on credit unions and the issues that matter to the industry in the state Legislature. Rep. Ridley is a freshman legislator who serves on the House Banking Committee, which debates many of the bills that matter to credit unions before they can move forward for a full chamber vote. As such, it is vital that the individuals who serve on this committee understands credit unions and how they shape life for the better in their districts.

GCUA has actively worked to create a strong working relationship with Rep. Ridley since his election, and this meeting provided an ideal opportunity to discuss the state session, potential upcoming bills, and the likely changes ahead in the Legislature, with the multiple representatives and senators seeking to run for the various statewide positions open in the 2018 elections. The focus on relationship building between credit unions and legislators is continual – also seen this week at the Georgia credit union Hike the Hill in Washington, D.C., and next week at two Hike at Home meetings with state legislators. Please take advantage of the opportunities to engage and build a relationship with your elected leaders!
