Creating Influence

Building Relationships for Future: U.S. Rep. Jody Hice Tours Credit Union

Congress has been on recess, providing a window of time for credit unions to engage with federal legislators locally … at town halls, in civic meetings, at church, or at credit union events.  During this Congressional break on August 25th U.S. Rep. Jody Hice (R-10) met with Peach State FCU for a tour of the headquarters to connect with credit unions and learn more about the industry’s positive impact on members in the district.

During the tour, the need for common-sense regulatory reform on a federal level was discussed, as well as the importance that credit unions play in the lives of consumers.  Credit unions across the country have been urging Congress to embrace regulatory relief through the “Campaign for Common-Sense Regulation,” and while more than 36,000 emails have been sent to Congress, in-person visits with the federal legislators speak volumes and help place an in-district face on the issue.  The tour with Rep. Hice was helpful in doing precisely that … not only to grow his perspective, but for all credit unions in advancing the legislative influence for the industry.

Credit union tours are an ideal way to engage with legislators, and are valuable to the elected official not only from the standpoint of greater understanding, but also the communication among the credit union staff and/or members about the visit.  Please consider hosting a legislator at your credit union leading up to the 2018 elections.  For the short time commitment, credit unions can advance the industry and build relationships … all while showcasing their own credit union!  Our thanks to Peach State FCU for hosting Rep. Hice in this manner.
