Building Relationships for Future: Georgia Credit Unions Meet with Senator

On July 26th Georgia credit unions sat down with state Sen. Matt Brass (R-Newnan) to build a connection for the industry.  Senator Brass is new to the state Legislature with 2017 as his first session.  However, due to his history in the political arena (he was Congressman Lynn Westmoreland’s Chief of Staff) and the large amount of turnover in the Senate due to legislators running for higher office, he has found himself on a fast track for leadership growth.  He was open to credit unions during the 2017 session, and this meeting was orchestrated to build a strong connection between him and the industry for the future.

L-R: Chuck Head, Atlanta Postal Credit Union; State Sen. Matt Brass; Megan Contreras, Atlanta Postal Credit Union; Marcia Tidmore, Georgia Power Northwest Federal Credit Union; Robin Ralls, Delta Community Credit Union

Credit union leaders from Atlanta Postal CU, Delta Community CU, Georgia Power Northwest FCU, and GCUA met with Sen. Brass and created the basis of a positive relationship that will be beneficial in the future.  Success in advocacy is built upon the most simplistic of things,  trust and understanding, and by creating relationships with elected officials credit unions can position themselves to protect and advance the operational environment to benefit members across the state.  Thanks to these credit unions for sharing their time, and for all credit unions who have done so in the past or are slated to in the future!  Please take advantage of these opportunities when they arise in your area.
