Advocacy Focus: Long-Term Relationship Building with Members of Congress

Personal and professional relationships are built on time, trust and regular interaction. And this is true with legislators as well; a connection to the industry does not happen overnight, but is created through the regular interactions of credit unions. It’s what builds strength in advocacy! Having positive long-term relationships with the state and federal legislators provides context on the issues, and can help illustrate the impact of any bill being considered in Atlanta or in Washington, D.C. And it’s a continuous process; the most recent example of this type of effort includes:

  • On July 29th Kinetic Credit Union engaged their team at an in-district event for U.S. Rep. Sanford Bishop (D-2). Rep. Bishop has been a strong supporter of credit unions over the years in Congress, signing onto legislation to help the industry as well as letters urging other federal agencies to act on key issues of importance consistently. This in-district interaction helps reiterate the appreciation for his support, as well as connecting credit unions with him in the Columbus area. Our thanks to Kinetic CU for sharing their time not just at this event, but engaging Rep. Bishop for MANY years to grow a positive relationship!
